Basic Navigation in Liferay

The standard out of the box navigation in Liferay consists of 4 areas:

  • Personal Menu
  • Global Menu
  • Site Menu
  • Applications Bar

Site Menu

The Site Menu is located on the life side of the screen and used for actions specific for the site youÔÇÖre currently viewing. You can change what site you are working with by clicking the Compass Icon in the Site Menu.

Applications Bar

The Application Bar appears at the top of each page and application listed in the Site Menu. The Application Bar shows an Actions (Actions) menu with different options depending on the application that is open at the moment.

Personal Menu

In the Personal Menu users can make changes to their personal account: change account information (Name, Password, etc.), see what sites they are members of, review site notifications, sign out.

Global Menu

Depending on your user role, you might not have access to the Global Menu. The Global Menu contains the Applications Menu and the Control Panel. You can also navigate to other Sites available to you from either the Applications or Control Panel tabs in the Global Menu, on the right side of the interface.
